Young artists in this pre-professional company of the New Jersey Tap Dance Ensemble have received training and nurturing in the youth company of the Ensemble for a number of years. These artists have achieved a level where they are ready to receive mentoring, training and support from the adult dancers in the professional NJTAP touring company. It is during this stage of their artistic development that they experience more challenging and demanding work as they make the transition from young artists to adult performing artists.
New Jersey Tap Dance Ensemble, Deborah Mitchell, Artistic Director, expands its programming with an NJTAP2 Outreach Program as part of the Company’s arts education.
Beginning, Sunday, September 14, 2008, the general public will have opportunities to take classes, periodically observe open NJTAP2 (the pre-professional company) rehearsals and engage in other tap experiences. An Open tap class and a Technique Tap Class will be taught by professional tap dancers from the NJTAP Touring Ensemble as well as guests artists. Knowledge of tap basics and tap shoes are the only requirement and it is recommended that participants be at least 9 years of age. Class fees are $15 each with no registration fee. Classes will take place twice a month at Sharron Miller’s Academy for the Performing Arts, 14 South Park Street, 2nd Floor, and Montclair, NJ. For more information about this program please call 973-743-0600.
